Bedford Springs Well #2
The Bedford Springs Well #2 project has been ongoing since 2018. The permanent well was drilled in August of 2019, an aquifer testing plan was submitted to the SRBC for review, and a 72-hours draw down test was done in August 2020. The hydrologist began the well development plan for BTMA to submit to SRBC for review. On January 3, 2024, BTMA received the Hydrogeologic Report and the Public Supply Permit Application was submitted.
Friendship Village Pump Station Replacement
An upgrade to the Friendship Village Lift Station was needed due to deterioration of the current pump station. An application was submitted for a small projects grant in December 2022, that required a 15% match. The grants were announced on December 19, 2023. BTMA was awarded a $420,000 grant for the project. The Board approved Stiffler, McGraw & Associates to begin design work at the January 3, 2024 board meeting.
County Jail Waterline Replacement
After a history of waterline breaks, the Board approved the replacement of this line, which includes approximately 477 linear feet of 8″ & 6″ water main hydrants along with the installation of a flow meter, pressure reducing station, and sampling station. Bid was awarded in April 2023. The project was funded from the BTMA general account. The project is completed.
Rodeway Inn Pump Station Replacement
The Rodeway Inn Pump Station (former Relax Inn Pump Station) need replaced as rehabilitation was not an option. The project consisted of demolition of the current pump station and construction of a new station. The project was completed in December 2023. The project was funded with a PENNVEST Loan.
Business 220 (Turnpike Interchange) Water Line Replacement Project and Northern Loop
This project was completed in 2021 and consisted of replacement of 17,935 linear feet of 6″ to 12″ water main and installation of approximately 285 linear feet of 8″ gravity sewer main, including manhole replacements, as well as replacement of an existing 500,000 gallon water storage tank with a 503,000 gallon tank. This project was funded with a PENNVEST Loan.
Area V & VI
This project has been in the planning and design process since 2014, and will bring public water and wastewater service to the areas of Route 220 past the Topsiders, Sunrise Terrace, Sunnybrook Hafer and Cara Heights. Final design is complete. This is the final Act 537 project that must be completed under the DEP mandate. Final Design is complete, some permits have been issued and some are in the process of being reviewed.
The authority was offered a low interest PENNVEST loan for the project cost, and applied for an H2O grant with the PA Department of Community and Economic Development Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA). Awards were announced on December 19, 2023. The authority did not get approval for any grant funding. The Board made the decision not to proceed with the project unless significant grant funding can be secured.
Old Bedford Village Lift Station
This project completed in the fall of 2019 and was a substantial rehabilitation of original constructed lift station This project was funded from the BTMA general account.
Cessna Heights Sewer Extension
This project was completed in 2020 to extend services to Cessna Heights and was partially funded with a Community Development Grant Bedford County and with funds from the BTMA general account.
Area IV – Camp Sunshine Water and Sewer Project
This project was completed in 2019 and was part of the Pennsylvania Sewage Facilities Act (Act 537) which requires municipalities to build public wastewater systems in an effort to reduce pollution in streams and rivers of the Commonwealth caused by failing private on lot sewer systems. The project brought services to the areas of Sunshine Beach Colony, Camp Sunshine, Louella Drive and portions of Belden & Messiah Church Roads. This project was funded with a PENNVEST Loan.
