Welcome to Watrous Water Association, Inc.

The community of Watrous is located 2 miles south of Gaines in Tioga County, PA.  We are located at the junction of Elk Run and Pine Creek, which locals have named “Watrous Beach”.

Years of oil exploration have contaminated the aquifer directly beneath the village.  Watrous Water Association was formed to provide potable water from the Springs south of the village.   These springs were found to be GUDI and susceptible to various pathogens. Following years of unsuccessful searches to find a suitable aquifer, we entered into a interconnect agreement in the fall of 2025 with Galeton Borough Authority PWS 6530010.   The boil water notice that we have endured for decades has been lifted.

Despite the issues, Watrous continues to be a place to camp, swim, fish, hike, and fall in love.  We have two event barns, each hosting weddings, family reunions, & prom dinners throughout the year.

A hundred years from now,  people may not remember the names of active citizens who struggled to make the community better, hopefully they may still continue to enjoy Watrous and perhaps make it their home .Gaines, PA 16921
